Ok give up?
It is a potato flour mixture rooled into balls and boiled. The inside has meat or veggies in it. You can buy them at the markets here by the bag.

I LOVE pyzy, but there are good pyzy and bad pyzy, like anything else. Some of the frozen ones in the supermarket are actually pretty good too.

I started a thread last December asking help on how to make them, without tangible result. I did get a few recipes on the net, but it was a disaster when I tried to make them: twice. Pyzy z mięsem is one of my favorites, but unfortunately right now I don't know how to make them.

12/29 Here are pictures of the front and back of a cardboard box of Pyzy mix that I bought at the little Polish deli nearby. I bought it when we first started having the discussion by Piwo. Because there is so much variation in starch in potatoes and I have terrible luck in making potato dumplings, pancakes, etc. I resorted to this mix. It worked well with a pork roast (for husband)...I think I browned some onions in a little butter to pour over them. As you can see the mix did come from Poland. I would use the mix again. But maybe if I get "bored" in the next few months I'll experiment with real potatoes. GM

NO, no, no - pyzy are similar to rolls without any stuffing, made of yeast pastry, "knedle" are in ball shape with meat, mushrooms or vegetables and are made of potato pastry, "piregi" are with stuffing and made of simple pastry of water, flour and salt. The most important difference is that "pyzy" are steam-heated not cooked in water. OK, I know even in Poland people have different names for the same dishes - my lexicon is from Wielkopolska.

I need to drive downtown to the Polish Sklep there and see if they have this, or some other like it. The only lady I knew who made them here moved to Switzerland, so no hope for a lesson! Thanks for the picture and the post Gardenmoma!

Bujno, "pyzy" are not made of potatoes - knedle and kluski slaskie are made from potatoes, as well as kluski szagowki (I'm sure this is name typical for Poznan but I don't know any other). Pyzy are steam heated and grow, because are made from yeats pastry/dough. But, you know, it can be regional. My grandma called "pyzy" - kluski na parze (steamed) so there's another name. I guess I should refer to a cookbook.

What is on the photo above is too small for Pyzy, they are "kluski slaskie".
