02/24 Hi everyone, I've just posted a series of links to Polish Lenten Recipes on my Squidoo Polish Site www.squidoo.com/polishculture_beyond_pierogi_and_cabbage. Some of these links are the same ones that Jaga put in the most recent newsletter; others are some I gathered from the main Polish Culture Site and this Forum. Jaga and I discussed my doing this, and she, of course, said it would be all right. This should draw some trffic to the main site for Jaga. If there are any other recipes you'd like to see links for at the Squidoo site, please let me know. And...when you visit the Squidoo site, please rate it...five stars are, of course, the best! Thanks, GM

GM for some reason the last url always gives me a message that it is not ready yet and that you are still working on it. So I tried the other one and it brought me to the page. Also in fotos # 32 needs to be cranked up right. ......Chris Nice going!!!!!

Guys,
Gardenmoma (Georgene) agreed to cooperate more with me on building the website. I am very happy because she is a real professional. She has her website on gardening. We will prepare the next newsletter together and she has access to the main website. She will co-host the site as long as she wishes. Of course Nancy will still be responsible for a genealogy corner and she would join us more actively if she would like also.

GM....#32 in Webshots I believe it was the Polish Cooking. picture of a long table with people around it.
the url you posted appears to be working I think I tried the url under you name in you signature and it does not work. when i click on it it still says you are working on it and it is not ready . Hope that was clearer for you. I compared the two links but one is typed and one is a hotlink so I can't see the actual type ...maybe a comma or dot where it shouldn't be.

I only wish to add that during Lent the Polish often had cooked potatoes with quark with chives (if it was already growing) and hempseed oil on top of that. Hempseed oil used to be very popular and was even called "Lenten oil", especially in Wielkopolska region.

Zooba...what exactly is quark. I don't think we have this here in the USA.

Quark is "white cheese" or cottage cheese - you must have it in US. When milk ferments this is the product you get, it's white and grainy, delicious. We all love it's much better than "yellow" cheese, eaten with chopped onion - yummy.

Hempseed oil used to be very popular and was even called "Lenten oil", especially in Wielkopolska region. Zooba, Thank you for that interesting (and fascinating) information...especially about the "hempseed oil / Lenten oil." Is it still available and do people still use a lot of it? "Quark" or "cottage cheese" is still one of my favorite foods Many evenings when I make husband his meat for our evening meal, I will load up my plate with the potatoes and veggies, and add s scoop of the cheese. I use the low-fat or non-fat cheese so it is drier than the "creamy full fat cheese." When I was growing up, our family's Lent was very strict...even for us children...a lot of cottage cheese, onions, noodles, pancakes (both potato and nalesniki). And I would not consider my family overly religious. Even though the Lenten rules have softened here in the U.S., husband and I still try to keep going with most of the "old rules." So that Easter, when the day, the rejoicing and the special foods finally arrive, is really very special GM

Hempseed oil is available but not easily - I work at a scientific institute that produces hempseed oil on semi-industrial scale, that's why I have an easy access to it. As bot hempseed and flaxseed oils are rich in unsaturated fatty acids, I try to use tham a lot in my cooking.
