Deutsche Welle (German pronunciation: [ˈdɔʏtʃə ˈvɛlə]; "German wave" in German) or DW is Germany's public international broadcaster. The service is available in 30 languages. DW's satellite television service consists of channels in English, German, Spanish, and Arabic. While funded by the German government, the work of DW is regulated by the Deutsche Welle Act, meaning that content is always independent of government influence. DW is a member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).NEWSBremen police release video of attack on AfD lawmaker Frank Magnitz Video of an attack of AfD politician Frank Magnitz has been released as part of a public investigation into the assault. Magnitz's version of events differs from what the prosecutor's office said is shown on the video. The Bremen public prosecutor's office and police on Friday released video of an attack on Bremen AfD Chairman Frank Magnitz that could shed light on details of the assault.
The court order required for the release of the video was issued Thursday by the Bremen local court, police said in a statement.
The video was published "as part of a public investigation in the preliminary proceedings conducted on suspicion of the dangerous bodily injury" to Magnitz, the statement said.
The CCTV footage released by police showed Magnitz being elbowed once and then falling over as the attackers fled.Different versions of eventsMagnitz said he was attacked from behind by three men with a piece of wood around 5.30 p.m. on Monday. He said the attackers continued to kick him once he had fallen down before he blacked out. The police video, however, shows one man hitting Magnitz from behind with his elbows after which two other people run past Magnitz.
Prosecutors cast doubt on Magnitz's version of events when they said video footage of the attack appeared to show that while the politician was attacked, most of his injuries were sustained when he hit the ground.AfD's Meuthen supports publicationAfD co-leader Jörg Meuthen told German newspaper Die Welt on Friday that he was in favor of the video footage being published.
Meuthen said it was not a show of distrust in the police, but to confirm whether there is a contradiction in the version of events.
"According to Mr. Magnitz, a construction worker [who alerted police] made the statement that [Magnitz] had been hit with a piece of wood," Meuthen told Die Welt. "The police said, 'We didn't see such an object,'" he added.js,law/sms (AFP, dpa)www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-46842106

Pieter
It is tricky at best with an eyewitnesses statements. For it returns to the old story of the three blind men discribing an elephant.
By optical recording means, shows two thugs knocking Mr. Magnitz down and the third running after the two, but no piece of wood shown. It appears as evidence shown by camera, that Mr. Magnitz information of the piece of wood, was entirely from that of the construction worker.

Pieter, it is possible that Meuthen was not aware how many from behind attacked him. It is weird that these two people just run in front.... as like they might know something?

Dear Jaga,
In this case you could probably better ask Karl, because he is a German and I am Dutch. This is an attack on his compatriot, not mine. At first I thought about radical left acivists, but there could be another motive and other powers behind this. Maybe criminal, violent street thugs or political or business rivals?
I have seen these attacks in the Netherlands and Belgium also the last couple of years. There is tension and violence in our societies.
Eindhoven the Netherlands, just an average going out night from saturday on sunday

This attack on AfD lawmaker Frank Magnitz was brutal, terrible and shouldn't have happened, but in the present day Europe and the world violence exists. In the political sense (Islamist, extreme left and far right in Europe), in the criminal sense, in interhuman relations, in families, between friends. Between people who are (alien) strangers to each other and happened to run into each others company without mutual consent and clash. (the case of the video of Eindhoven in the Netherlands. A large group of young men encountered that 2 other young men and as preditors threw themselves on that one poor chap, who just wanted to go home).
The Bundeskriminalamt (the Federal Criminal Police Office) and Bundespolizei (German police) should take this case very serious. And investigate who attacked AfD lawmaker Frank Magnitz and thus wether there were criminal or political motives behind the attack.

Pieter and Jaga This was a deplorable act of violence against persons in the matter of: Frank Magnitz and not to be taken lightly of course. We have not the ability to know or read in to the thoughts of each person in this situation as both the persons involved in the attack or the victim of this violence. What we do have though, is saved images of the situation of interest depecting the victim being elboed by a single person, given cause for the struck person to fall forward following the blow from behind. Injuries suffered by the victim is normal as from a fall forward with facial injuries caused by striking a hard surface as such would be a paved surfaced street. Rather this was a result of a political attack or random attack should not be the question, for the reality of this act is criminal and should then be as it is, investigated. But by the circumstances of the victim being an active member of the political party of AfD, the investigative department of responsibility is as Pieter has rightly recognized, as the Department of The Bundespolizei to head the initial investigation. Noten: Upon simple checking of various media publications, it was noted of a very wide array of printed information of this incident that varied from wild speculation to exaderations that fringed upon published lies. What is truthful though, is this incident will most likely be to the advantage of the political party AfD at the voting booths. www.thesun.co.uk/news/8175825/frank-magnitz-afd-germany-not-attacked-wood-bremin/Karl

Karl, I wonder if this incident will have the same results as the political assassinations of Pim Fortuyn and Theo van Gogh, who both became and still are martyrs for the Populist Nationalist right, because 2 political parties in the parliament (PVV and Forum voor Democratie) have clearly Fortuynist influences and gained by the climate after the murder of for instance Theo van Gogh. Theo van Gogh's assassination by an Islamist Jihadist started the beginning and the rise of Geert Wilders movement, the PVV Freedom party. Theo van Gogh was a member of the Dutch Republican society Republikeins Genootschap, which advocates the abolition of the Dutch monarchy. He was a friend and supporter of the controversial Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn, who was assassinated in 2002. In the present day Europe I see 3 main extremist groups who could carry out political assassinations or terrorist attacks. The Islamistist Salafist violent Jihadi's, Far right Neo-Nazi's and Identitarians and the third group the violent, extreme antifa (Anti-fascist) action (the radical extreme left anarchists). We don't know if the violent extreme left Anti-fascist action (Black Bloc) is behind this attack, criminals, far right rivals of the AfD, local street thugs of Bremen or other people? Karl is right. I hope that for the sake of democracy and freedom that the the Department of The Bundespolizei will organise the the initial investigation properly and I hope that the purpetrators can be caught. By the way I would say the same thing of the attack would have been against a Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU), Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU), Free Democratic Party (FDP), The Left (Die Linke), Alliance 90/The Greens or The Blue Party (Die blaue Partei of Frauke Petry and Michael Muster) politician. I hope that this attack won't lead to more political violence and tension in Germany, because I know what that might lead to due to my Dutch (Pim Fortuyn/Theo van Gogh) experience and earlier violence against politicians in my country. The attack was performed by the Revolutionary Anti-Racist Action. In 1986 Kedichem, a village in the Dutch province of South Holland became nationally known in The Netherlands when extreme leftwing activists burned down a hotel there to prevent a joined meeting of the nationalist Centre Party and Centre Democrats parties, causing a number of injuries. The far right Centre Democrats and Centre Party met on 29 March 1986 in Kedichem. A group of anti-fascist activists believed that the two parties were planning to merge, and firebombed the hotel where the meeting was held.
