Herman Brood - My way (2001)And now, the end is near And so I face the final curtain My friend, I'll say it clear I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full I've traveled each and every highway But more, much more than this I did it my way
Regrets, I've had a few But then again, too few to mention I did what I had to do And saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course Each careful step along the byway And more, much more than this I did it my way
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew When I bit off more than I could chew But through it all, when there was doubt I ate it up and spit it out I faced it all and I stood tall And did it my way
I've loved, I've laughed and cried I've had my fill my share of losing And now, as tears subside I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that And may I say - not in a shy way Oh no, oh no, not me I did it my way
For what is a man, what has he got If not himself, then he has naught To say the things he truly feels And not the words of one who kneels The record shows I took the blows And did it my way en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herman_Brood

Pieter
This Song {My Way} has always been a favourite of my own for many years, and one of sadness of regret for my past years of mistakes and wrongs having been committed that now will never be corrected.
Of the many renditions sang by various people, it has been that of Mr. Frank Sinatra that my self have favoured for so long.

Karl,
Ofcourse I agree with you. The 2 others were a Dutch rocker and a English Punk Rocker who both died due to drugs related issues. Overdose and suicide. Herman Brood was talented, but drugs and alcohol addiction ruined his life, like that of so many other rock musicians. Toward the end of his life, Brood vowed to abstain from most drugs, reducing his drug use to alcohol and a daily shot of speed ("2 grams per day"). On 11 July 2001, depressed by the failure of his drug rehabilitation program and facing serious medical problems because of his prolonged drug use, he committed suicide by jumping from the roof of the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel at the age of 54. He left a note, stating "Party on. I'll be seeing you."
Brood's outspoken statements in the press about sex and drug use brought him into the Dutch public arena even more than his music. He was romantically involved with the German singer Nina Hagen, with whom he appeared in the 1979 film Cha-Cha. He is reputed to be the subject of her song "Herrmann Hiess Er" (English title "Herrmann Was His Name") from the 1979 Unbehagen album, a song about a drug addict. Brood relished the media attention and became the most famous hard drug user in the Netherlands. "It is quite common for an artist to use drugs, but not for him to tell everybody. I admit that it scared me that my popularity could make people start using drugs," he once said in an interview.
Cheers, Pieter

Herman Brood was part of the excellent Dutch Blues band Cuby and the Blizzards. Herman Brood played the piano in this band, replacing Hans Kinds whom playe guitar in that band. They toured the Netherlands and Germany.
