Saturday evening in Groningen, North-East Netherlands
In the center of Groningen, German Arminia Bielefeld and Dutch FC Groningen football supporters have come to blows. Among other things, tables and chairs were thrown together. In total, it concerns a few dozen supporters.
The municipality of Groningen said earlier this week that supporters of Arminia Bielefeld were not welcome at tomorrow's exhibition game against FC Groningen. RTV Noord reports that due to the expected riots an emergency order would take effect at 00:00. The municipality has brought that forward.
The police are now looking for the German group to make it clear that the emergency order is already in force. The police will also tell the supporters that they have to leave the city. If they don't, they will be arrested.
Terrace destroyed
A restaurant owner saw it all happening right outside his door. He told RTV Noord: "We heard some screaming in the street and I went to have a look outside. Then I already saw tables and bicycles flying through the air. We then quickly went inside. It was actually over quite quickly. We were scared." The damage is considerable. "My terrace is broken, I still have one whole table. A chair leg has gone through the window of the neighbors."
Comment Pieter:
In other cases Dutch Hooligans acted the same in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and France. There are old rivalries and hostilities between various Hooligan groups of various clubs, but also coalitions between various Hooligan firms like between ADO Den Haag and Legia Warszawa. I wonder if with this Corona crisis more people have become frustrated, irritated, agitated and resort more quickly to violence?
