Jaga,
What Putin fails to understand is that the War in Donbas has alienated the Ukrainians from Russia from 2014 until today. Putin also fails to understand that Ukrainian is a different language and culture than Russian. He fails to understand that the Ukrainian President and people don’t see Russians as the enemy bu the Kremlin Putin regime. Putin fails to understand that many Russians are against the war and that the war is devastating for Russia as well. Putin fails to understand the Ukrainian soul, love for Ukrainia of the Ukrainians (("Glory to Ukraine" (Ukrainian: Слава Україні! Героям слава!, romanized: Slava Ukraini! Heroiam slava!; transl. "Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!")), Ukrainian Patriotism and Nationalisn. Have you seen the video of the Ukrainian armed border guards who fought until their death on that little island. These were Ukrainian heroes. They refused to surrender, because they are Ukrainians and not Russians, nor Soviets. Many Ukrainians will give their life for the fatherland. Like the Ukrainian President and his family who stay in Ukraine. He is an important symbol for Ukraine, a very brave, responsible and smart man. He wanted to negotiate with Putin, give diplomacy a chance, but Putin didn’t took up the phone when Zelinsky called him. In the short run the Ukrainians will lose this war, but the Russians will face Resistance, Ukrainian rebellion and Ukrainian sabotage. Ukrainians are not Russians and won’t accept to be occupied by Russia 🇷🇺. That is what Putin fails to understand.
I am not anti-Russian, I understand the Russian concern for Russian minorities in Ukraine, the Baltic states and the former Soviet states in the Caucasus and Central Asia. But Putin isn’t rational, nor many of his followers, Russian intelligence, Police and intelligence agencies. Only Neo-Soviet ideology, Great Czarist empire thoughts, Russian Ultra-Natiinalism and Russicism (a Russian racist Eastern-Slav and Eurasian thought) counts in Putin’s and his many followers eyes. Unfortunately Putin has many Russian Ukrainian and Russophile Pro-Russian followers in Ukraine. That is a fact. But Putin hasn’t broken the Ukrainian soup, spirit, Patriotism and nationalism yet. He has no idea what he has gotten himself into yet. It is a disaster for both Ukrainians and Russians. Many Russians have family in Ukraine and are against this war Jaga.
Cheers, Pieter

Ukrainian forces battled Russian troops on multiple fronts, including the outskirts of Kyiv.
Ukraine's border guard has said that males aged 18-60 are not allowed to leave the country in a statement posted on its Facebook account. The border guard said that this restriction will last for the duration of the period of martial law in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared martial law earlier on Thursday shortly after it was reported that Russia had attacked Ukraine.
Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar has warned that Russian forces are poised to enter areas just outside the capital, Kyiv, on Friday. A government adviser, Anton Herashchenko, said the Russian troops planned to break through into the capital using tanks but that Ukrainian forces were ready to counter the attack with anti-tank missiles supplied by foreign allies.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had earlier said the government had information that "subversive groups" were moving on the city. This comes after a night of reported air raids in the city that were said by a DW correspondent to have set some residential buildings on fire. Many Kyiv residents have taken shelter in underground metro stations.
The Ukrainian general staff of the armed forces said Ukrainian troops were firmly resisting what he called "Russian occupiers" in the Kyiv area. Ukrainian airborne assault troops were reported in a statement to have stopped "overwhelming enemy forces" at the Teteriv River near the settlements of Dymer and Ivankiv, northwest of the capital. The statement said a bridge over the river was destroyed. "The hardest day will be today. The enemy's plan is to break through with tank columns from the side of Ivankiv and Chernihiv to Kyiv,'' Interior Ministry adviser Anton Gerashchenko said on Telegram.
