Putin has prevented World War IIISergey Karaganov with Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin, Moscow, Russian Federation.Putin's adviser Sergey Karaganov believes that Europe should erect a large monument to the Russian president in Brussels.
In the TV program Weg van de Wereld ("The Road of the World"), the Russian political scientist and economist states that Putin has averted a Third World War by occupying Crimea. In doing so, the Russians effectively prevented Ukraine from becoming part of the “Western alliance,” he says.
“The great war would have broken out sooner or later,” Karaganov says. “There were two possibilities: the Russians are always ready to attack. Or NATO would have been afraid of us and attacked itself. That is an objective fact.”Terrible DefeatA Russian military convoy destroyed in BuchaKaraganov, an influential Russian thinker in international politics, believes Russia has a responsibility to "save Europe from a great war."
“We determine that ourselves. And we saved Europe from a terrible defeat.” He also denies that Russia "invaded" Ukraine. “It was a gray area.” Cold War
In "The Road of the World" ("De Weg van de Wereld", in Dutch), the man who was previously an advisor to Boris Yeltsin and who worked for the United Nations looks back on the Cold War, which, according to him, took a heavy toll on the former Soviet Union.
“We were not under the assumption that we had lost the Cold War. The West thought it won because we abolished communism.”
“It was our fault that Russia subsequently collapsed, it was 99 percent our own fault. But now it's payback time. We want to consolidate Russia. And Europe is going through an identity crisis, a socio-economic crisis.”
Are we moving towards a new world order? In episode four of "The Road of the World" (Weg van de Wereld), Rob de Wijk and Arend Jan Boekestijn receive the Russian political scientist and economist Sergey Karaganov, adviser to President Putin. How does he view Europe?A resident of Bucha, a city some 20 kilometers from Kyiv, filmed destroyed military vehicles near his house on February 27, after Ukrainian forces stopped the Russian advance through his town.

Sergey KaraganovSergey Alexandrovich Karaganov (Russian: Серге́й Алекса́ндрович Карага́нов, born 10 September 1952 in Moscow) is a Russian political scientist who heads the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, a security analytical institution founded by Vitaly Shlykov. He is also the dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at Moscow's Higher School of Economics. Karaganov was a close associate of Yevgeny Primakov, and has been Presidential Advisor to both Boris Yeltsin and Vladimir Putin
Karaganov has been a member of the Trilateral Commission since 1998, and served on the International Advisory Board of the Council on Foreign Relations. He has also been Deputy Director of the Institute of Europe at the USSR (now Russian) Academy of Sciences since 1983.Political activityKaraganov is known as the progenitor of the Karaganov Doctrine, which states that Moscow should pose as the defender of human rights of ethnic Russians living in the 'near abroad' for the purpose of gaining political influence in these regions. After Karaganov published an article advocating this stance in 1992, Russia's foreign policy position linked Russian troop withdrawals from the Baltics with the end of 'systemic discrimination' against Russians in these countries.
In addition to his Doctrine, Karaganov has advocated for a united Sino-Russian strategy to unify a Eurasian bloc. He argues that the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and China's One Belt One Road Initiative (OBOR), will work together to promote economic integration throughout the region. Many experts disagree with this judgement, claiming that China, as a far more powerful economy, will simply dominate this Eurasian bloc. This would counter Russian ambitions to regain their foothold as a global power.Role in Russia/Ukraine War In a 2019 interview with Time Magazine, Karaganov considers not allowing Russia to join NATO was the “one of the worst mistakes in political history. It automatically put Russia and the West on a collision course, eventually sacrificing Ukraine”.
Karaganov, who is known as a close advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin, formulated many of the core ideas that led to Russia's invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022. In an interview published in the journal "Russia in Foreign Affairs", Karaganov defined Russia's main foreign policy goal as forcing its own dominance on the globe and breaking the security order put in place at the end of the Cold War in 1991. Karaganov explained that "the situation is so dire" that "war is inevitable", as Russia could only achieve its goals by military means, since, unlike the United States, the dominant post-Cold War power, Russia had no political, cultural, ideological or economic benefits by which to bring other states under its influence. Karaganov lamented that Russia's neighbors generally saw the West as offering more attractive political and economic models, and Russia therefore had no choice but to gain their submission by force.
Regarding Ukraine, Karaganov claimed that it was necessary to subdue it in order to prevent the further expansion of NATO. As justification for an unprovoked invasion, Karaganov suggested that Ukraine was not a viable state anyway, and "most likely, the country will slowly disintegrate," or, alternatively, it will be broken up into smaller parts, and "something may go to Russia, something to Hungary, something to Poland, and something may remain a formally independent Ukrainian state."
However, he later said that "occupying" Ukraine was "the worst-case scenario".
He has also said that "we need a kind of a solution which would be called peace, and which would include de facto the creation of some kind of a viable, pro-Russian government on the territory of Ukraine, and real security for the Donbas republics".Additional notesKaraganov is the only intellectual from the former Soviet Union listed in the 2005 Global Intellectuals Poll, and only one of four, with Pavol Demeš, Václav Havel and Slavoj Žižek, from Eastern Europe.

Pieter
This was a very interesting presentation in presenting Mr. Karaganov for what he is. For he is not just only an intellectual but social expert in manipulation. For with his intellect and very experienced manner of understanding the human reaction to stimulate of the mind. If not working with the Russians, it is a good bet this man could sell washing machines to an Arab Berber trader whilst tending camels.

Karl,
I like your reply. If you look at the Russian primitive and failing warfare, and you see this advisor, you start to understand the Russian mistakes. I see -if the reports are correct and proven- war crime after war crime committed by frustrating losing Russians. Looting, street executions, tortures, rape and gang rape in houses, burned corpses of women and children. The worst I read was child rape today of a 14 year old girl and an 11 year old boy who was raped in front of his mother. The girl is pregnant from her rapists.Yes Arab and Berber primitive Rif mountain and Arab desert tribe methods. You are right Karl.

Karl,
Making a distinction between very sophisticated, educated and good Arabs and Berbers of Arab and Berber cities and towns on one side, and primitive Clan, Tribe and conflict methods of some Arabs and Berbers on the other side. In the sense of Arab/Berber family clans with Honour killings, vendetta’s, bloody rivalries, clan conflicts, civil wars (Lebanon, Syria, Libiya, Iraq, Gaza -Fatah & Hamas conflict-, Jemen and Sudan) and wars (Jemen, Iraq, Syria and Libiya). The problem of the murders within the Israeli Arab community due to a high crime rate.
Cheers, Pieter

Hello Pieter,
I just had to add a couple of words to this thread since we don't want to be in trouble with proboast owners. We are not trying to justify Russian aggression here.

I have to agree with Karl on this issue. There are different points of views, but not all are equal. Pieter This was a very interesting presentation in presenting Mr. Karaganov for what he is.
