As a Dutchman this is funny to watch. I actually think that the Dutch are to much overplanned, to much control freaks and actually want to plan everything in advance. It is to much I think. It is also in the landscape and infrastructure, every square meter is organised. Roads are even complicated for foreigners due to all the lines painted on the street, all these street signs and all these Refuge islands, speed bumps (also called traffic thresholds, speed breakers or sleeping policemen; if you don't watch out your tires and the coachbuilder of your car will be damaged. I often heard that terrible sound of cars driving to fast over speed bumps, dammaging the lower parts of their coachbuilders) and the Netherlands has redicilous narrow roads in the country side, in villages, towns and in cities, you have to calculate if a car, truck or tracktor of a farmer drives in the opposite direction. You watch far in front of you and if you see a vehicle or car approaching your are already at the side of the road and you have lowered your speed. It becomes a second nature while driving in the Netherlands. Totally different than in the USA where most roads, lanes and higwways are broad and often in a straught line. A lot is square formed in the USA. The Netherlands and Europe in particular have ridiculously narrow roads and that's why European cars are build differently than American cars due to the European circumstances of driving.

Dutch people are not the greatest fashion people and do not have a very sophisticated taste, they are pragmatic people, a people of farmers, sailors, calvinist minsters, atheists, secular liberals, workers, a large petit bourgeois Middle class dominance and rather square motoristic tall blond blue eyed people. Not the refined latin Southerners, noit the overtly social and rather distant northern Scandinavians, the Dutch are probably in the Middle between a WASP American, a South African Afrikaner (White Dutch kindred speaking people), a Dane, English, Guy, some Scottish Presbyterian elements, some little Flemish, Walloon and French influences, a lot of West-German and Central-German influences (of the Old Prussia), some colonial heritage, and a little bit of Northern Ireland. Dutch and Danish people are mistaken for being rude, while they themselves see themselves as direct, frank and honest. British people are slightly more indirect due to politeness, the same with Belgian people, Poles, Czechs, and Southern Europeans. Some Dutch people (friends, colleagues and strangers are to direct to my taste, I am slightly more indirect or polite like a foreigner, because I don't want to invade someone others private space -Aura- abruoptly, you have to intriduce yourself and give people time to get accustomeed to you). In their liberal core Duthc people feel at home like a Fish in the water in New York city, LA, London, Berlin and Paris and other places. You can travel all over the world and meet Dutch peoole on the way, they are Globe trotters. On holiday I enjoy sometimes the time that I am liberated of the presence of compatriots for a week or 2 weeks. Enjoying the local people, culture, history and cuisine of people abroad in places where there is NO MASS TOURISM, because I hate mass tourism. So I always try to find places and area's that are not touristic.

Pieter
I must say, you indeed so have covered a great deal of ground with your presentation, and most welcomed. Yes, in the manner of narrow streets and roadways, although American cars {Auto} are becoming more small, still they can be an issue on old areas with the narrow roadways. My self have never had the privilege to drive in The Netherlands but in the older areas of Western Europe, narrow roadways are to be expected in as well as those darn cobble stone paved ones. If an auto is not properly built, they certainly will develop some squeaks and rattles in time.
Even though to have attended various driving schools by requirement, still, I refuse to drive to, in around Berlin. Although criticized very much with using public transport or as a passenger only in an auto. Perhaps traffic has improved since last to travel there but I do doubt it. {wonder why there is a b in English word Doubt?}
With the manner of accusation of Dutch people being rude, this applies to Denmark as well, even my self after all this time, still innately respect the privacy of others.
In the manner of Dutch people in their dressing styles, speaking only from my self, I very seldom thought any thing about it. For in normal none business attire, most folks dress in how ever they feel comfortable. That is if the clothing is clean. The area at least for my self, is drawing the line against jeans that are ripped and torn or bleach burned through around the knees. This looks very bad as if the wearier is an escapee from a trash camp refugee bums convention.
My self most likely not with the norms of the times, for I still wear a hat and most likely have the appearance of some University professor in the stead of knowing the styles of the present, who knows for sure what people are thinking out in public.
