A gas pipeline connecting Lithuania and Latvia has exploded outside Pasvalys in Lithuania.

Flames reached some 50 metres high, but firefighters said the fire should gradually decrease after valves on the pipeline localised the breach.

There were no reports of injuries but local officials asked people to close windows and stay indoors.
