Not sure who would not know the difference between Bavaria and Germany as with Northwestern Nederland and German/Dansk-Friesian {Pieter and myself}, but a video developed by a young lady living in the USA actually from Munich {Bavaria}. You will notice her greeting which is quite common in Bavaria as: Servus or Halo as the case would be in spelling: Service, for this is the actual meaning of the greeting which in actual meaning is: At your service, originating from the old Austrian-Hungarian Empire. This greeting is quite common in also Austria South Tirol {as a person, I am not fond their happy mountain music}.
The young lady in question is Feli, and she is very excellent in describing these various aspects of Germany with patience and accuracy.
Another Feli from Munich primarily for Americans as follows:

Karl,
Like in the Benelux countries (Belgium, the Netherlands -Nederland- and Luxemburg), you have the divide North and South and West and East in Germany. In the Benelux you could see the Netherlands as Northern Germany and Western Germany, and the Southern Belgium and Luxemburg as Austria, Switzeland and Bavaria. Nordrhein-Westfalen, Niedersachsen and Rheinland-Pfalz in the West, and in the East the states Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Sachsen and Thüringen. Hessen in the Middle. In the North Schleswig-Holstein and the city states Hamburg and Bremen. And in the South Saarland, Baden-Württemberg and Bayern. Bayern in language, religion (Roman Catholicism) and mentality is close to the Austrians. You could say that Austria and the German part of Switzerland are German and German dialect speaking Southern German states.
Very nice and informative video's Karl. Thank you.
Pieter
