Dear John,
I think that Donald Tusk is speaking the Truth. The Russians have an enormous Military Industrial Complex and an enormous landmass, they are supplied by Iran and North Korea and allies of China. We should never underestimate the Russian Federation and the Kremlin (Putin), and the capabilities of the Russian armed forces in Ukraine, Syria, the Caucasus, the Antarctic, the Baltic Sea region (the Kaliningrad Oblast, a Russian exclave between Lithuania and Poland, where the headquarters of the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy is present, and no doubt the Russian Airforce, Army and Intelligence agencies with their advanced Signals intelligence).
The present Russian thinking is the merger of the Russian Czarist thinking in 1830, when Warsaw was a Russian city (a Polish city occupied by Russia), the Lenin era of Lenin as the first and founding head of government of Soviet Russia from 1917 until his death in 1924 (during which the Polish–Soviet War 1919-1921 took place) and the Soviet thinking of 1946-1950 (the SovietUnion under Jozef Stalin), with a few elements of Nikita Khrushchev (whom narrowly avoided nuclear war over Cuba) and Leonid Brezhnev (the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 under the guiding leadership of Brezhnev), and with Putin's own experience with the Second Chechen War (7 August 1999 – 30 April 2000), the 2008 Russo-Georgian War (1–16 August 2008), the Russian military presence and bombardments in Syria (30 September 2015 – present (8 years, 5 months and 4 weeks) and the Russian involvement in the Ukrainian conflict, called the Russo-Ukrainian War (27 February 2014 – present (10 years, 1 month and 3 days)).
Europe should be prepared with it's own Defence Industry, larger investments in it's military budget per country, and in better NATO coordination between European countries. NATO should be present in Norway, Sweden and Finland in the North, the Baltic States, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey. Turkey should be strategically and tactically allowed to become a member of the EU. The whole border between the EU countries, it's allies and NATO countries on one side and theRussian Federation and Belarus on the other side should be fortified in a strategically (enormous) military line. Enlarge the European armies, European nations should spend more on their military budget. The American presidents Obama and Trump asked the European members of NATO to increase their Defense spending and thus not to rely to much on the US Defense and NATO Army, NAVY and USAF (United States Air Force).
President Obama in 2014 encouraged leaders from Central and Eastern Europe to increase their defense budgets in response to Russian aggression in the region. Donald Trump rightly said that European NATO countries should increase their Defense budgets to the minimum standard of 2% of the state budget. Poland's prime minister Donald Tusk rightly warned for a 'Real War in Europe' and thus the invasion of countries like Kazakhstan, Georgia, The Baltic States and possibly the half of Germany (the former East-Germany, the German Democratic Republic, GDR, DDR in German, Deutsche Demokratische Republik).

Pieter
Be assured myself and in complete agreement with you, for your words are the words of reality and we need Russia for a trade partner not as an enemy.
