I saw damaged car and falling trees in Polish TV. It was terrific. www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/01/multiple-deaths-from-falling-trees-as-winds-reach-96mph-in-southern-polandFive killed by falling trees as winds reach 96mph in southern PolandDeaths, including those of two children, occured in three separate incidents, two in Zakopane and one in Rabka-Zdrój Mon 1 Apr 2024 14.27 EDT Five people have been killed by falling trees as strong winds battered southern Poland on Monday, reaching a speed of 96mph (155km/h) in the highest parts of the Tatra mountains. In the town of Rabka-Zdrój, two women and a six-year-old died after a tree crushed them, firefighters said. Another woman died when a tree fell on her car in the town of Zakopane at the foot of the Tatra mountains, a spokesperson for Zakopane’s firefighters, Andrzej Król-Łęgowski, said. A falling tree in the same town killed a child, according to a spokesperson for medical responders. Local authorities have issued a warning of dangerous winds reaching at least 62mph and have closed mountain tracks in Tatra national park. Firefighters intervened 140 times on Monday morning to remove trees blocking roads and help homeowners with destroyed roofs, local media said. The winds followed three days of unusually warm weather. On 30 March, temperatures reached a new record for that month, rising to 26.4C in the southern town of Tarnów, according to the state PAP newswire.

My good heavens but winds of 155km/h at that! It is such shame those people killed by falling trees is terrible, but this year seems to be so different than in past, just simply makes a wonder as to what nature is trying to do to us..
I know little of Poland but to hope you have patience with my question, Zakopane, is this a resort city?

Hello Karl, good question. Yes, Zakopane is a tourist center of Polish mountains. It is a very crowded place full of tourists with a view to the Gubalowka mountain. Rabka where some people died has many sanatoria and spa. I was there several times. Jaga My good heavens but winds of 155km/h at that!
