Mary,
you are probably right. It seems though that another service (by satellite since we do not have a cable) is twice that expensive. Today additionally we had a strong wind and very icy roads, this added to my frustrations.... happily I did not have any accident.
I am really ready for the Spring!

;D Gen3. I live in an almost metro area but have no Broad Band in my neighborhood from the phone companies. I looked into satellite but it was just too expensive and like you mentioned, there was the weather problem. I was under the impression that service from the cable company would be expensive but I was wrong. There is the initial cost of setting up the connect but after that, the monthly fees are low or competative with the dial-up fees that I now Pay. One of my daughters told me that the phone company was setting up a FIOS network in her neighborhood but the monthly fees for service was more than double the cost of the cable company. ;D Bob, Do the FIOS fees cover phone, TV and internet? And if they do how do they compare? John the Just. No the fees will only cover the FIOS Internet; all other services cost extra. You can add the other services and bundle them as a package. If fees for phone services are going to increase, I just may add phone service to the internet connection. Jaga please take care of yourself: little things can quickly change to big problems when you are not careful. The cable guy came to my house about 5PM and I knew that it would be too late for him to do anything. Running a new line and setting up the internet service does take a bit of sunlight ;D ;D. Take care of yourself Jaga.

We will not allow that! In My Opinion, and having had it for almost two years....Satellite is not even close to worth the cost! Rain and snow both will knock you off line, and there's nothing you can do about it. Mother Nature doesn't understand. Also the service we had doesn't tell you...., but, they have a policy that if you go over their download amount (or whatever it is) they drop you for the next 24 hrs to what is equivalent to dial up speed. It was just totally unacceptable! They call it some kind of "fair access"......... I paid way too much for NO access! Watch that trap!

Guys,
yesterday I did not have any internet connection whatsoever. Today all lights in my modem were correct but still I could not have the access to the internet (my husband uses a router and it was messing up). I called the office and finally they helped me to adjust some addresses and now finally it works!!!
But I had to eliminate a router at least temporarily.
IT IS SO FRUSTRATING NOT TO HAVE ANY INTERNET CONNECTION!

IT IS SO FRUSTRATING NOT TO HAVE ANY INTERNET CONNECTION! Typically American. hahaha As some 6 -year-old- girl said after a disastrous earthquake in LA in 1994: "I can`t believe it! There`s no cable!!!"

IT IS SO FRUSTRATING NOT TO HAVE ANY INTERNET CONNECTION! Aye to that...before I forget...I am starting off with a new name-not that I wanted to have a new name...I had some difficulties with FireFox yesterday. I tried to open my Firefox browser, I got an error message saying Fire Fox failed to start, so I re-booted, thinking something didn't load right. After the second boot, I was able to get the firefox browser open, but the home page was blank-I tried changing my home page to something else, but still the screen was blank. All right-what gives? Went to the firefox forum to look for a possible answer to the problems I was having. Long story shorten, well I never figured out why the Firefox wouldn't work. I even did a system restore, and that didn't help. Back to using the IE-not a happy camper! I guess I could re-install the Firefox and see what happens... thus the new name-the old name of Joyce & the email address I used to log-in was not accepted by this forum-it said "invalid user name" and "wrong key." I needed something to occupy my time... ;D

Guys,
I am in the public library right now and I will have a connection only for 1 hour. I need to clean my mailbox and do other things so I will be unable to write too much.
The computer service is terrible since my internet company was bought up by a company from Virginia. But since I do not have any internet connection I do not even have a chance to look for another service.... anyways, somebody is going to come on Monday.
We had terribly lots of snow, I was in the course of downloading the pictures when the service went off.
Yesterday at night I was only able to send one e-mail to Holly when the service was on for 2 minutes, that's it.....
If this technician guy would not improve anything we will have to start using another service which is unfortunately twice as expensive that what we have now.

At this speed you do not worry about downloads.

It is a miracle, but suddenly my computer started working. But Mary was right, we have so much snow which is melting that we worry that our basement can flood.

Joyce, I used to have problems with Fire fox and it was mostly due to some conflict with the microsoft and private firewall. I called my internet provider, Cablevision and they fixed me up in minutes.
