First ever brand new catholic chapel in the shopping center was opened last Saturday in Katowice. It can be a place to run away to when lost in the supermarket ..... It would be a serious challenge for me just to face both in one day for too much of lights, shining, flashes, glitter and smells. news.independent.co.uk/europe/article331423.ece

I have heard about it. I believe that this is a good idea.
Do you know that there are the inter-religious chapels at every busy airport in the US?

I think it was mentioned in our news hear when they were reporting on Katowice chapel. P. S. And someone here noticed Poland was becoming like America....

The wonderfully irreverent songwriter Larry Norman wrote these lyrics: ``Step into the madness of a million city streets, Where the local church is closed except a couple of times a week, And turns its face from the homeless on the streets ... Step into the madness, say your prayers and drink your tea, Get ready for a kinder, gentler World War III.''

On PoznaƱ Airport - "Lawica" there is also a chapel. No priest however, but anybody can come in and pray. As for chapels in shopping malls - I don't like it. I believe that going to church for praying cannot be done in haste between shoppings. Church requires silence and this can't be provided in malls.

Yanc, I agree with you. Shopping and Church do not mix. Even though I am praying I find the perfect gift. (just kidding) Seriously I don't believe they should be mixed. Sounds like the drive in Churches we read about in California. Tasteless.

It`s interesting that the Independent found the polish mall chapel worth mentioning. Is it so unusual in the UK to have chapels in strange places?
But, to the point. The problem is bigger than chapels in malls. It is an alarming situation for the Church when millions of Poles visit malls and big shopping centers on Sundays. The Church claims it is not catholic. Sunday is supposed to be a day of religious reflection, not craze for shopping. Besides, the Church tries to protect the people who have to work in malls on Sundays. They can`t spend this day in a catholic way either.
