I am not sure how many of you are familiar with Polish culture site but one of the most interesting sites: OKANA SITE is gone. it was devoted mainly to the customs of Polish old pagan traditions. Does anybody know whether Okana moved her site in a different place or whatever happened to her? She was a recipient of our Site of the month award. her website can be only accessed through teh archive and is very slow: web.archive.org/web/20030603165956/okana.org/page.html

Sadly this is what I am refering to when I say the internet is like a collection of magazines instead of a library. This site dissapeared and is gone, much as an old but informative magazine is discarded. A library is much more of a solid, dependable repository of information.
People live and die, cultures live and die, so it seems web sites do as well. I am sorry to hear that!

Kai,
yes, I see the problems in the relations with internet people and internet sites. We live sometimes in a virtual world. People appear suddenly and dissapear, sad....
sometimes we just cannot even trace them

I have one of Okana's books, "Singing Back the Sun." Although they are not available through Amazon any longer, they used to be, and the write-up is still there and interesting. OKANA's Books

Nancy,
this book was very popular. Okana was preparing the next edition and now she disappeared. There is no way to buy it in amazon since nobody sells even the used one.
I do not have it - is it interesting? I believe so since I learnt about the book when people started buying it through my site - I did not even know it exists!

Jaga, Are you familiar with Half.com? That is a good site for used books, CDs, DVDs, etc. I think there's a function where, if you're looking for something currently not available, you can add it to a list and they will e-mail you when a copy of the item comes up for sale, if you want to buy a copy of this book.

Jaga,
the subtitle of the book is "A Dictionary of Old Polish Customs and Beliefs" It is not your typical "old world customs" book - the entries take you back beyond the simple practises to the underlying -usually pagan - roots. She says her beliefs are an intermingling of the old, pre-Christian traditions and the new.
