Bob,
is it you? I always remember Veteran's Day because it is new Independence Day in Poland. In Krakow there is a march organized from the wawel Cathedral, I am not sure what is in Warsaw but maybe our Polish friends can update us with the information how this day is celebrated in Poland

Poland celebrates its Independence Day A bishop of the Polish armed forces Tadeusz Ploski has said that the homeland is a value worth sacrificing life for. In a homily delivered on Poland’s Independence Day, observed today, bishop Ploski said that freedom is embedded in the hearts of Poles. It is freedom understood as hard work and devoted service. 87 years ago Poland regained independence after more than a century of foreign partitions and millions of Poles started to rebuild their homeland, said bishop Ploska during a mass attended by, among others, Poland’s prime minister Kazmierz Marcinkiewicz.

;D wb4rff. Yup! thats me Jaga. I think I will have to edit my info some time today. I am an old dog trying to learn new tricks and this new board is offering me new opportunities. (Hush, hush) I wanted to add an "avatar" but I don't want the stock ones that Bella has. I have a favorite photo and would like to use that for this forum so a little help would be appreciated (help this old dog to learn new tricks).

Hollister, Do or die !!!! Yes I am. I have my poppy on! Since Wayne won't be home until late - I am going to lay our wreath this year all by myself. Because Wayne is not going to be here - we decided to delay our Nov 11th celebration until the 13th. I'll let you know how it goes.

Bob, see the "some help" thread to see Forza's message about using an avatar. I think you might have to have it on a website somewhere. If so, send the jpg to me and I will put it on my site and send you the link. HAPPY VETERANS DAY to all Veterans, and THANK YOU.

Yes, please be sure to tell us about the reception. I have this image of smalec in pots, Forza singing, and vodka flowing, but I suspect it will actually be much more elegant!

This came from my sister-in-law. I would like to share this with all of you. Click on the link near to end. Subject: Veterans Day Tribute Friday is Veterans Day, many of us are Vets in our own right, but I am willing to bet that our fathers and other “adult role models” are WWII Vets. In my case, both my father and father-in-law served during WWll – Dad in Europe and Dad-in-law in the Pacific. Both of these fine Vets have passed on, and it is in their memory that I am sending this on to you. Take a few moments on Friday to remember and to ponder where we would be today had this group of individuals not stepped up and did what they did low these many years ago. For those of you who shared “my war”, thanks for serving. For those of you who have friends or children currently serving – thank them for me – one Vet to another, and while it might not be politically correct, say a prayer for them. Read, listen, and contemplate the following: The elderly parking lot attendant wasn't in a good mood. Neither was Sam Bierstock. It was around 1 a.m., and Bierstock, a Delray Beach, Fla., eye doctor, business consultant, corporate speaker and musician, was bone tired after appearing at an event. He pulled up in his car, and the parking attendant began to speak. "I took two bullets for this country and look what I'm doing," he said bitterly. At first, Bierstock didn't know what to say to the World War II veteran. But he rolled down his window and told the man, "Really, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you." Then the old soldier began to cry. "That really got to me," Bierstock says. Cut to today. Bierstock, 58, and John Melnick, 54, of Pompano Beach - a member of Bierstock's band, Dr. Sam and the Managed Care Band - have written a song inspired by that old soldier in the airport parking lot. The mournful "Before You Go" does more than salute those who fought in WWII. It encourages people to go out of their way to thank the aging warriors before they die. "If we had lost that particular war, our whole way of life would have been shot," says Bierstock, who plays harmonica. "Every ethnic minority would be dead. And the soldiers are now dying at the rate of about 2,000 every day. I thought we needed to thank them." The song is striking a chord. Within four days of Bierstock placing it on the Web (http://www.beforeyougo.us , the song and accompanying photo essay have bounced around nine countries, producing tears and heartfelt thanks from veterans, their sons and daughters and grandchildren. "It made me cry," wrote one veteran's son. Another sent an e-mail saying that only after his father consumed several glasses of wine would he discuss "the unspeakable horrors" he and other soldiers had witnessed in places such as Anzio, Iwo Jima, Bataan and Omaha Beach. "I can never thank them enough," the son wrote. "Thank you for thinking about them." Bierstock and Melnick thought about shipping it off to a professional singer, maybe a Lee Greenwood type, but because time was running out for so many veterans, they decided it was best to release it quickly, for free, on the Web. They've sent the song to Sen. John McCain and others in Washington. Already they have been invited to perform it in Houston for a Veterans Day tribute - this after just a few days on the Web. They hope every veteran in America gets a chance to hear it.

Hi guys, I have a message for you on this veterans day:
A thanks from just an American guy
My thanks are to you for that you have endured, accomplished, suffered, fought for. Your rewards were to come out alive, a medal, a thank you and your discharge out of the military and back into the world you left, and then looking for a job.
You returned to the world you left of memories, love of family, freedom and mac Donalds (hamburger). All these still existed, as also the rows of houses with neat mowed lawns, expanses of rolling wheat lands, corn fields green in the sun light as far as the eye can see. Farm after farm. All as you remembered.
This all was only possible, because of your work. You fought for our way of life, democracy, and your sweet hearts waiting for you at home.
I have seen this, and on this date, I know, I owe it all to you, our veterans and fellow Americans.
God Bless you all, and thank you!
Charles

Happy Veteran Day 2005 to all of the brave men and women in our armed forces, both present day and past. May God Bless you all for the sacrifices you have made. I have spent the day watching old war movies and remembering my dad and the challenges he faced while fighting in WWII. Thank you all for making this country what it is today. Free!
