Unfortunately (or fortunately) how ever a persons particular view point may lead. This would be the end result of completed integration into American Society.
It is a completion of the homogeneous integration into a new society completely divorced from an ethnic past.

As I think, members of this forum know my thoughts on a) Never forget your roots and practice what you are able to within the limits of the country of which you are now a citizen b) if you want to be Polish-American, Hungarian-American or whatever, why did you emigrate to USA and either become a citizen or if born in the USA recognise that you are American c) if you emigrated from another country to USA - why? If you have become naturalised, you are now a citizen of USA; if you have retained your 'other' nationality, you are a Pole, a Hungarian, a Czech, an Irishman etc. Like Charles, I feel it is Rather sad that material links with the 'alien' past are disappearing, but all these links can be continued in your own home, with your extended family or with a group of like friends, so it doesn't have to disappear. What pleases me is to see the report that all the immigrants are now spreading all over NY rather than remaining in racist ghettos. This is what saddens me in UK with principally the Muslims - they tend to live in 'areas' of a city (Bradford, Leeds, London and so on) and as a result what, to me, is desirable - steady integration as citizens of UK - does not happen, or so slowly it is not noticeable. I am not an advocate of 'coffee-coloured', but if that is an inevitable result, so be it - the white race does everything natural and unnatural to brown their skins in any case!! Finally, Suzanne and Bescheid, surely you can make your own strudel if this is what you yearn for - if not, come over to England and I'll make some for you!! Leslie

There aren't many immigrants now from this part of Europe, so this little part of NYC's cultural fabric is slowly slipping away, sadly
Ever been to Greenpoint Brooklyn? Polish community is alive and well there and getting bigger
