I have had a bad cold for the several days, and while I thought I was getting better, the cold seems to be winning at this point.
I used to say beer kept me healthy (all that yeast ;D) but now I don't drink beer. I crave chicken broth and ornge juice, which I normally can't drink (too acidic).
What do you folks do when you get a cold? If you have a "cure" that is not listed in the poll, please share it with me!

Nancy,
I take a benadryl, put on sweat pants and top. Go to bed and sleep. In about 2 days it's gone. Works every time for me.

I checked Chicken soup.
And that is problematical. Bad colds and flue is very similar with me. I tend to keep all light off as it is a sword through my eyes and brain, curtains pulled, no food, no water, no nothing, and I die. Well at least for a day and night. The following day, possibly, a little chicken soup (possibly or possibly not) The third day, usually much better and for sure some chicken soup.
Chicken soup is not for me a cure, it is just the only thing that will stay down.

For me two things work: 1. I call it "wypotka" i.e. massive sweating - you take an aspirin, dress warmly in flannel pyjamas, go to bed, cover yourself with lots of duvets and blankets, put a hat or a towel on your head so that only a fragment of your face is visible. Stay there until you're absolutely wet, then go to the shower, change the pyjamas, bedsheets and go to sleep. Next day you'll feel like a newborn. Very drastic and unpleasant, but does wonders. 2. I eat squeezed (pressed?) garlic on bread with some mayonnaise. Smells terrible but works. I recommend.
Both methods are natural and very Polish.

I hope this is not what they call a computer virus, because I feel fine right now! And of course, a cold is a virus and there is no cure for a virus: it must run it's course. So what makes you comfortable, that is what is best. I attack this from the natural, the pharmaceutical and environmental fronts. 1) Shot of potato Wodka, because there's no bad time for that! It relaxes, tastes great, relieves the soreness in the throat from the sinus's running, and well, there's no bad time for it (did I already say that?). Except when driving, operating heavy machinery, or working with sharp cutlery. 2) Antihistamines - only the type that doesn't make you sleepy or jumpy. The only one that doesn't make me sleepy, or crawling out of my skin has the active ingredient "chlemestine fumerate". This is to dry out the crud, which makes you so uncomfortable while the virus is running "roughshod" over your system. Virus don't like Wodka, so sometimes I "double down" on them. In addition, I'll sometimes take an Excedrin PM, which to my surprise, works incredibly well. Anything to help me get a few hours of sleep and strength to "fight back" (or lift the Wodka bottle). 3) keep house cool at night. That's right, use lots of covers, but keep the house cold. Heat causes swelling in the sinus, which constricts air flow. Your sinus is already sore and inflamed from all the sneezing and nose blowing, so you need to give it a break. When you can't breathe properly, you are miserable and don't sleep, which makes you more miserable the next day. At my house, when the heater kicks on, within minutes my nose starts to get "stopped up" which means actually, it's just "swelling shut". No fun! All the other items I saw listed are excellent as well: if they make you feel stronger or more comfortable, then they are a winning addition to something you must endure! Well wishes Nancy, Franek and all others sneezing, aching and with "cough due to cold". Spring is just around the corner!!!!

Piwo,
I hope you are not washing those antihisatmines down with that Vodka....no,no,no.
I hope this is not catchy. I am never sick but when I am it makes up for lost time and then I die.
Usually whenever I feel a cold come on I take Alka Seltzer cold plus and about 20 min later I am back to normal .

Both methods are natural and very Polish. Zooba, Garlic has been touted here for the past 10 years or so as a great cure-all. I love garlic! The sweat cure is also recommended by Jim (above). I suppose for both it is better if you sleep alone.

Just John My variant of your cure is 5 fingers of whisky in a glass, two teaspoons of honey - no tea; now add enough just boiled water to make the drink hot. Retire to bed. Drink the glassful and lay down. I am always surprised how well I feel in the morning!! Sir Leslie, KHCB

Feeling any better yet, Nancy?
My favorite cure, if you can call it that, is to just to continue on as if I weren't sick. I'm not one of those people who can stay in bed when sick, because somehow that just makes me feel worse, I don't know why. But I do crave chicken soup, orange juice, and tea when sick.

In Holland you can get a cup of hot chocolate milk with cream on it, delicious. I drink it regulary in Arnhem and last weekend I drank it twice with my parents after cycling at the coast in an old fashionate pub. Tonight I am enjoying Tullamore Dew (Irish whiskey) and Coca Cola, real whiskey drinkers hate this impure combination, but I like the mix, but love Whiskey, Whisky abd bourbon (for roses, Jim Bean) pure too. I actually drank more bourbon than Whiskey, but this evening I enjoy this Irish one.
