A German think tank (Bertelsmann Stiftung) has released its annual rating of the "transforming economies" around the world. Here's Slovakia, Poland and the "transforming" countries near them:
Political leadership toward democracy and market:
--- "Successful": 7.20 Slovakia
--- "Successful with weaknesses": 6.83 Slovenia 6.67 Hungary 6.62 Czech R. 5.27 Poland
Status of economic and political transformation:
--- "Highly advanced": 9.56 Czech R. 9.49 Slovenia 9.18 Hungary 9.14 Slovakia
--- "Advanced": 8.76 Poland

Based on this report, I think that Polish leaders have to do better for their nation. But as always, can we believe what we read. In some ways Poles are like Americans, they don't react or act until the wolf is at the door.
