Jaga, This is not a picture from the air, but rather one from across teh border. This is what Poland looks like from Slovakia, looking across the Poprad River at Zegiestow. I made the best panorama I could. With both "automatic" and manual splicing fo four photos, this was the best result. This was taken on Dec 27, so you can se how little snow there is! Kai

Kai, this is a great picture! It shows Polish individuality - the houses are spread out freely Did I tell you that this summer I felt better in SLovakian Tatras than in Polish since Polish Tatra were just so overcrowded! At least you do not see these crods on this picture.

We're all off for a skiing holiday in Slovak Tatras in a couple of weeks. 7th February to be precise. We're having a couple of days in Krakow followed by a week in Jasna, here - www.tatry.net/jasna/grand/I don't ski but Marta and Zosia will be learning. Looking forward to it very much.

Scatts, have you had any snow? OK, with the magic of the Web I answered my own question: 3 Day Forecast & 5 Day Forcast top: 2023m mid: 1486m bottom: 950m
So you should have good snow and sunshine! Here it is snowing again. Time to spend time shoveling the driveway and heading off for a noon cross country ski with friends!
Schi Heil! (Hail skiing!)

Thanks, GM. I was lucky to have a clear day and the sun at the right angle. In the summer I must go back and photograph Slovakia from Poland, again with a better sun angle than was available at the shortest time of year. I do belie Poland was occupied first, as people would naturally take advantage of the sunny south-facing slopes to get a better growing season. Of course, with that your specialty, I would be intersted in any comments along that line! I understand houses were also oriented to take advantage of sun angle, when possible.
I noticed on splicing the photos that the quality of the photo improves from right to left, thus when I splice a photo I should use the left side and crop the right side to match to get the best of both. I was rather surprised. I am using 4.1 megapixel setting on all of my photos, since I learned I can get between 400 - 500 photos on a 1 GB memory card.
Still, my all time favorite camera was a Rolie 35, one with which I photographed Pole john Paul in Mexico City ((1978?). The pictures just sparkled, they were so sharp. unfortunately I left it behind on a bus in Mexico. oh, the Pope chased me down twice more and waved hello all three times.
