pieter, I wish I were even half as good as him!. I can't see the Moscow picture from that link but anyway, I can imagine how it might look from having seen a number of Newton's images before. I'm glad you like that one because it is one of my favourites but, until now, has not been mentioned by anyone else as being something they like. Thanks for taking the time to search through the galleries! It always surprises me how everyone likes something slightly different. There are few shots that seem quite popular with a few people but not many. The Photo Lula has the Classical triangle composition in it, when you draw a line from Lula's right foot on the ground to the left corner on top and the same thing from her foot to the right corner above. The clouds and buildings in the distance form a contrast with the little girl, and the path she is walking on, the grass and chanal along the path. And I like the fact that you chose for black & white or gray as you call it. I could not find Helmut Newtons Moscow's pictures on the net, he edited them with radical analogue photographic techniques (reminding me that the photo pioneers Laszlo Moholy-Nagy -Hungarian- and Man Ray were bussy with that too, in the thirtees). pieter, the "lula" photo didn't start out as B&W although I prefer it to the colour version, which you can see here www.pbase.com/scatts/image/43219580/large I didn't notice the triangle but you're right. I WAS trying to get her in the bottom left thirds intersection so I suppose that would automatically give the triangle anyway. I do like intersecting lines, diagonals and things going off into the distance. I'm aware I've probably taken too many and nowadays I try to stop myself taking them because I've done it before! Not sure about Laszlo but I like Eva's work very much. Rdy, again someone picks out a photo I like. What can I say, you all have GREAT taste! I should say I like the idea of "faces in the crowd" but think the execution can be improved. As you look around in a cemetery that is what you see, especially in Poland with the enamel photos on the gravestones as well as the living visitors. I sort of followed the theme with the one I've now named "Head stones" which has Marta's head sticking above the stones. Again, it could be better done, I should have asked her to turn around and moved the handbag but I'm afraid I keep having these flashes of inspiration without the time, or inclination, to follow them through properly.

Almost finished a gallery of Prague - www.pbase.com/scatts/travelpragueWhat a delightful gallery collection scatts. It was a pleasure in viewing experience. Some of those night photo shots were very striking. Charles I remember, that when I was in Prague, I was very impressed not by beautiful buildings and cathedrals, but by inscriptions which covered the walls inside the towers at the Carl's IV bridge. These inscriptions were drawn by tourist of the previous times. The oldest one, that I saw was dated 1659 year!!! Just a real history's breathing!

Scatts-nice picture of "Winston." Which brings me to one question I have-how do the cities of Poland control their pet population? Are there animal shelters there that one can "adopt" or buy their animals from? Does the city government require you to obtain a cat/dog license for your animals? Are there "leash" laws? Is there a limit of how many animals one can have in their apartment/home? Do wild dogs or feral cats run loose in the cities? And how do "country folk" handle large packs of dogs that may bother someone's livestock-is it shoot first then ask questions later? Joyce

Joyce, yes, we have animal shelters. There is a control of animals, they need to be registered, at least in cities. There is a certain small fee to have animals in the city (if this is not a guardian etc), the shots are also obligatory. Usually you do not see homeless animals on the streets in Poland like in some other countries like for instance in Greece. In the countryside the dogs are sometimes used to help to take care of the sheep etc, but I do not remember any big packs of dogs. One more thing - Polish dogs especially in the towns are usually smaller than dogs here, this is probably due to the fact that our apartments are also smaller

Ian ,
wonderful pictures. I am still forgetting to post my photos in this thread rather than in a separate thread. I will try to remember about this place after the next trip!
