read what this person did. She dound security breach POLAND - Figuring out how to fool fingerprint sensors with simple methods and materials turned out to be worth $20,000 to Kendra Potasiewicz of Poland. Potasiewicz, a high-school senior, won a $20,000 scholarship during the Intel International Engineering and Science Fair in Albuquerque, N.M., on May 18. Her project focused on how products purchased at Wal-Mart could be used with wood glue to create fingerprints realistic enough to trick high-tech sensors into believing they were real. Potasiewicz said she personally found the work intriguing. "Basically just the fact that you can fool these sensors that people think are secure," said Potasiewicz, 17. More than 1,500 students from 51 countries win regional fairs each year for the right to compete for more than $3 million in scholarships and prizes during the Intel fair. Potasiewicz won through the Department of Homeland Security University Programs Office. The department's interest focuses on projects that have a connection to its mission, which is to deter terrorist attacks and protect against and respond to threats to the nation.Potasiewicz said she plans to study biometrics, a field related to her project, while majoring in engineering beginning this fall at Clarkson University. www.uticaod.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070601/NEWS/70601019
