To all,
Belive me, I made the change to Merry, but for some reason, did not change, sorry.
I got this on a card, and wanted to pass it along.

I think it is a cultural thing Livia.
Americans start to wish each other a Merry Christmas soon after Thanksgiving (end of November). It feels at times as if Christmas is the never ending holiday. Since sending Christmas Cards is popular and even somewhat expected the Post Office encourages/demands that you send your cards out early - so I think we (Americans) get into the habit of saying Merry Christmas (and all the variations) too early and by the time the actual day rolls around - it seems "trite."
Not to say that Mike's wishes were not heartfelt, I am sure they were.
I remember strolling around the Market Square in Krakow on Christmas Day meeting families all dressed up in their Christmas finery, and everyone was wishing everyone they met "Wesolych Swiat" and since it was something special it just seemed well, special!

P.S. We don't start after Thanksgiving, like someone said, but a week or so before, is good.
