There is news today that Sens. Carl Levin and John Warner have began to investigate the Iraqi finances. After years of complaints that the U.S. is "losing trillions in Iraq," the U.S. Senate has finally seen the light, and has asked the Government Accountability Office (GAO), to audit where the Iraqi oil profits went. I have always thought that there is something fishy about the government of al-Maliki. It's almost as if there was a sinister agenda to do everything that the bloodshed continue! The Iraqi people have been suffering immensely in recent years. Yet the government "is not doing nearly enough to provide essential services and improve the quality of life of its citizens," the report said. In fact, since the American intervention began, "most of the essential services are being paid by the United States." Why this audit is important? Each time that a U.S. soldier is killed in Iraq, I am convinced, it is partially because the Iraqi leaders refuse to spend the money on their people! Iraq is one of the wealthiest nations on earth. The billions in oil profits cannot be accounted for, and "are probably languishing in foreign banks. Definitely, it is time to get some answers!

I heard today in the news that the reason Iraq is not spending its 60 billion surplus on reconstruction "is that they have too much corruption." This is absurd. If this were true, they do not deserve to be a nation! My feeling is that the reason may be much more ominous. The Iraqis, and Iran, are waiting for the U.S. to bankrupt economically and just go away! Then President al-Maliki, a Shiite, will let Iran rebuilt Iraq making the Sunnis slaves, and putting the Middle East under a total control of Islam! Remarkably, the news also notes that "the Iraqis do know how to use their money to acquire sophisticated new armaments." This itself might indicate a possibility that they expect the U.S. to leave soon, and they may need the weapons to give the U.S. a gentle push. How otherwise they see no "corruption" obstacle in arms acquisitions, but corruption in rebuilding infrastructure, something that would boost the U.S. credibility? That is strange, indeed! They do not want to make the U.S. look good, period! That sole fact that they acquire weapons rather than food, electricity, and housing for their people shows that their regime is not better than Saddam's!
