Hello guys,
I am just curious, how many of you have still dial-up connection? How many do have cables or other wireless internet?
I remember that in the past Kaima and Charles had to spend long hours to be able to see our pictures....
My internet works now very fast, finally I see the difference between less than 200 kB and 2 MB!

Wow guys, you have faster connection than me. I did not realize that so many people have already fast connection. The 2 MB which I have now is enough to listen to the university lecture in the highest resolution/speed they have available, so I do not know what I would do with even higher speed, but I guess, the boundaries of the Internet are immense.

Kai, Charles,
do you still have a slow dial-up connection? The fast speed internet is not really that expensive anymore and it is really worth investing. I see the difference. I can watch youtube presentations and I do not need to wait anymore to load it in. It saves lots of time!

Jaga, I am still on dial-up with a blazing 50.6 kbps at the moment. My opportunity to change will come with the sale of my house this summer and moving into a condo, or if I don't find one right away, then an apartment while I look for a new place to live. All of this will be going on as I host the two young cousins from Slovakia. It promises to be an interesting summer! Since I live alone it is fine by me to head to the local coffee house or the library two times a week to use fast wireless. I don't know what offers are out there, but am not in a hurry to investigate. Kai

I can watch youtube presentations and I do not need to wait anymore to load it in. It saves lots of time! At present, verzon has not completed the up grade underground install of the light emitting cable in this area. Upon my request, the crews advised it will be of one more month as of time of completion, then the splice up into the main system. At present, firm of Comcast has the business total. They wish to charge $99.00+ for package highspeed Internet/telephone and television service with expiration of 6 months. Then regress to the normal rates. This is without inclusion of local state/city and Federal taxes. I am in a process of adjustment in my private life. Two weeks prior to this coming Tuesday {Dienstag} I was to have my right eye with laser surgery for removal of the remaining scar tissue {resulting from 4 years previous of cataract removal on both eyes}. The surgery was without pain, but was not so smooth as there were some complications. It is fine at present, just necessary to wear dark glasses out of the house for with a high sensitivity to bright light. UV is not a problem as the implants are UV protected. This previous week was completion of exchange for new equipment in printer/lap top computer. My previous work computer was over 6 years in age, the printer was {I think}8 years in use. Now, it is an adjustment with the new key board and vastly fast printer/computer with also the related learning curve. Charles

Hello Kai,
I hope you would have fun in summer with your Slovak family members! If you have a chance to use internet caffee, this is probably a good opportunity to get out from the house.
Besides, since it is cold in Alaska, there is probably less thermal noise and your connection can be faster than in the other parts of the world.... just joking

Hello Charles,
you have much more important problems now than just your internet connection. I remember you talking about your cataract surgeries in the past. I hope that you do not drive that much anymore!
You still work, you have the active professional life, you need to use your eyes carefully.
I hope you would be better. I am sorry for this extra charge. Our extra charge for the new connection and new antena was about 50 dollars, not that much and the price of the internet went up 10 dollars, from 20 to 30 per month. So, it is not that bad.
I feel bad that I did not ask you for your health for some time. Remember, your mother is still alive, so you are still a young man!

Have been wanting to try it, but it is not available in my area. Cannot get IP phone service here yet. Only on the cable side is it available. Seems that Charles is going to have FIOS at his location. That ought to be pretty snappy for bandwidth.
