Polish PM at the Visegrad Group summit 15.06.2008
Prime Minister Donald Tusk goes to Prague later today for the summit of the Visegrad Group which, apart from Poland and the Czech Republic, includes Slovakia and Hungary. Tomorrow the four prime ministers will be joined by French president Nicolas Sarkozy.
Mr Tusk intends to lobby during the meeting for support for the Polish-Swedish plan to strengthen ties with Eastern European nations like Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova and Belarus. It is expected, however, that the situation in the EU after the Irish referendum will dominate the discussion.
In July, Poland takes over the presidency of the Visegrad Group. The Polish Prime Minister is planning to invite his counterparts from the other Visegrad Group members and the Baltic states to Gdansk to discuss a joint celebration of next year’s anniversaries: the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of World War Two and the 20th anniversary of the collapse of communism in Central Europe.
