Ό ούρανòς καì ή γη παρελεύσονται, οί δέ λόγοι μου ού μή παρελεύσονται: "Heaven and earth will pass, but My words will not pass away," Jesus assured in Luke 21, 33. Jesus was refering to the judgment of evil that is to come. What is the relation between the evil of abortion and patriotism? Abortion is against life, and Life is no other than Jesus. Thus, abortion is one of the greatest evils that a nation can stand for. A patriot, therefore, will not stand for abortion if he or she wants their nation on good terms with God! There is no question, as Prof. George McKenna has pointed out in his book on "The Puritan Origins of American Patriotism," that strong patriotism can only be inculcated by religion. Poland (and Europe) might have not existed today, were it not that the Church, for a thousand years, have been teaching every citizen in Poland the battle song, Bogurodzica (The Mother of God). It was with this song on soldiers' lips that all greatest battles of Poland have been won, including the Battle of Vienna which saved Europe. It's not just allegiance to a flag, or a secular national hymn what drove the soldiers to victory, even though such are important. People are able to summon more courage when strong religious feelings underline their patriotic drives! The problem of America is that the public education has consistently lowered the religious sentiment in the hearts of young people, with the inevitable diminution of patriotism! Patriotism will be limping in America until the new generations choose to defend life, including unborn life!
