Yes the founding fathers believed in God. They were also Deists who believed God created life and left it at that. Anotherwords they believed he never intervenes in anything. He leaves it up to ourselves. Hardly Christian in any way. Thats fine as far as i'm concerned.

Happy Ben Franklin Day! The newspapers report this is his 300th birthday!
Few would deny that he is one of our more important Founding Fathers, but also few would accuse him of being very reverent! He was known as a jovial fellow who would spend a good deal of time in bars and perhaps even more time in chasing women. Maybe that is why the Founding Fathers sent him to Paris for an extended time - they wanted a fair chance at fatherhood in between their church going and shooting Britts & Hessians.
So I propose a Toast to a good Carousing and Partying Founding Father, Founding Father in the best senses of the words!

The one thing I absolutely can not stand about America, more than anything else in the world, is that there are so many people who want to make the whole of America like one big church-country. I personally hate religion, and yet in America you have to really try hard to escape it.

Not true Eric.. we have the freedom to practice what we believe in. I believe in God. I may not be the best Catholic but aspire to being a good person. Im not sure why you think it is a big church country. Maybe because of the bible belt who think their way is the only way and try to instill their beliefs on everyone and change the laws. Are you an Atheist then?

Eric,
I am on the other coast from Rdywenur and the same is true here. The church is invisible. If you choose to go it's your business. The only time it was prevalent was when the Pope died. No one has ever pushed religion on me, well the LDS are always trying.
