Giant EU flag damaged in Prague at onset of Czech EU presidencysee here www.ceskenoviny.cz/news/index_view.php?id=352626Prague - A flag with the EU logo hanging from the giant pendulum in Prague's Letna park, towering over the city, since the New Year's Eve was damaged by an unidentified perpetrator yesterday, police spokeswoman Eva Miklikova told CTK today. The person has cut out a part of the flag, Miklikova said. The case was highlighted by the server Novinky.cz. Miklikova said the blue flag with yellow stars, hoisted in the place of the former giant statue of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin, had been vandalised on January 1. However, the police were only tipped this afternoon, she added. If caught, the perpetrator will be sent to one year in prison and fined. The flag is situated at the Time Machine giant metronome in Prague's Letna Park that will measure the time of Czech EU presidency. The metronome was lit in European colours by Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Alexandr Vondra in the first minute of 2009. After France, the Czech Republic has assumed the six-month rotating EU presidency.
