President-Elect Barack Obama has included Polish-American Julius Genachowski, a former chief counsel of the Federal
Communications Commission, on his Transition Team.
Julius Genachowski is cofounder and managing director of Rock Creek Ventures, an investment and advisory services
firm focusing on digital media and commerce. He is also Special Advisor to General Atlantic, a leading global privateequity
firm. Previously, Mr. Genachowski served in senior executive positions at IAC/InterActiveCorp for eight years,
including Chief of Business Operations, General Counsel, and member of the Office of the Chairman. He joined the
company shortly after it was founded by Barry Diller and was a key player in IAC's growth to become a major ecommerce
and new media company. Business Week has listed Mr. Genachowski as one of 25 "Managers to Watch" in
the media industry.
Mr. Genachowski served on the Boards of Directors of Expedia., Hotels.com, and Ticketmaster while each was a
publicly traded subsidiary of IAC. He is currently on the Boards of Directors of Website Pros, The Motley Fool,
Beliefnet.com, and Marc Ecko Enterprises. He is part of the founding group of New Resource Bank, a commercial San
Francisco-based bank targeting the clean-tech and renewable energy sectors, the country's first 'green' bank. His nonprofit
activities include service on the Board of Directors of Common Sense Media, and the Board of Advisors of
Environmental Entrepreneurs.
Before joining IAC, Mr. Genachowski was Chief Counsel to Chairman Reed Hundt of the Federal Communications
Commission. He has served as a law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice David H. Souter and, before that, to retired
U.S. Supreme Court Justice William J. Brennan, Jr. Mr. Genachowski worked in Congress on the staff of the Select
Committee investigating the Iran-Contra Affair and also for then-U.S. Representative, now Senator, Charles E. Schumer.
He holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School (1991), where he was co-Notes Editor of the Harvard Law Review; and a B.A.
from Columbia College (1985).
The transition team will be headed by former Clinton White House Chief of Staff John Podesta, Chicago businesswoman
and Obama family confidante Valerie Jarrett, and Mr. Obama's Senate chief of staff, Pete Rouse. The transition team is
stacked with Chicago power brokers and Clinton administration officials, such as former Clinton Commerce Secretary
William Daley and former State Department African specialist Susan Rice.
