Traditions of Lent in Europe

In the Middle Ages many people died very young. So, people had to become more accustomed to death.

Many churches in Europe have so called "danse Macabre" or "dances with the death" showing death dancing with people of different status.

It does suggest that at least in the aspect of death - we all become equal.
