The European Commission is demanding Poland return 400 million zloty in direct funds, paid during 2006-2007.
The EU accuses Poland of failing to spply a unified system of farm maps, in line with the EU's requirements, so as to be able to distribute subsidies to individual farmers.
Warsaw, on the other hand, says that supervision of the project was very precise and denies irregularities in procedure.
Poland will have to turn to the European Tribunal to avoid sanctions, which will be officially announced in two weeks time. (ab)
