Dear American friends,
I had no idea that the Native Americans, the Amerindians, the Sioux, Apache, Comanche, Navayo, Iroquois, Cherokee, Iowa people, Cheyenne, Odawa, Crow people, Rappahannock people, Quinnipiac, Ute people, Yakama and other tribes stil have their culture, some kind of Pride and identity. We only saw documentaries, photo series, and reports about shabby Reserves with poverty, broken homes and cars, alcoholism, high suicide rates and misery. That exists, but due to John's thread and my own short research I found out that the Native American Spirit is stil alive, eventhough few of them are left. There are 9,666,058 Native Americans (Amerindians) and they make up only 2.9% of the total U.S. population.
The words of the Dakota Sioux musician, political activist, and actor Floyd Westerman, also known as Kanghi Duta ("Red Crow" in Dakota) (August 17, 1936 – December 13, 2007) fascinated me. A man with wisdom and inner strength, whom understands his Native American world and mythology and the White mans world. He understood the Irish struggle against the British, but also understood the differences between the Irish struggle and that of the Amerindians, the Native Americans. Kanghi Duta ("Red Crow") has a voice like Johnny Cash, but he was a Native American and Johnny Cash not, Cash was an off spring of the White colonisers of Northern-America.
Floyd Red Crow Westerman as a political activist, spoke and marched for Native American causes.
If you compare that with the White and African Americans, Latin Americans and Asian Americans, the Native Americans are a small group.

71% (235.4 million) White (including White in combination with other races)
61.6% (204.3 million) White (one race only
