Well, some of you are going to remain skeptical, I'm sure, but...
Moj kochona came to me this week... got stuck overnight in Frankfurt due to flight delays and they lost her luggage on the way back.. but ... she got here and we had a fantastic, wonderful, unbelievably great time!
I asked her for her hand in marrage... using only a few polish phrases, since that was all I was able to master... and she said YES!
I can't tell you about her yet... she asked me to wait 30 days... she has people to tell and some other issues to take care of first ... but, I can now tell you who I am:
My name is David Van Camp, I live in Glens Falls NY, Gateway to the Adirondacks, I'm a software consultant and you can view my website (which hasn't been updated in a few years) here: www.davidvancamp.com.
No, I'm not rich. I'm not poor either. I paid for this trip with money I had saved to buy some hiking gear (snowshoes, boots, crampons, winter hiking clothes...my christmas present to me) which I won't be buying now. The ring I gave her was an old one I've had for years... I plan to trade it in to get her a better one later, when I can better afford it. Oh, and I drive a beat-up Daewoo and live in a 2 bedroom apt. And she knows all this. Yea, rich, right!!
I flew her to me rather than flying to her because of the cost difference... $500+
As for the idiot remark about talking with her father & uncle, well, she has no father and she's a grown woman, not some teenager, so why would I want to talk to her ailing Uncle who only visits her occasionally? Also, she's very very highly educated and has a good job and manages to travel to all sorts of exotic places with no financial assistance from me. I paid for this trip because it was my idea.
We will both be making a joint public announcement in a month on each of our websites (I have another one, it won't be on the one above)
---------
As per the request to describe where I live...
Glens Falls is a very small city in far north New York state, lying in the northern Hudson Valley and surrounded by the Adirondacks to the west, Vermont Green Mtns to the east, Lake George and Lake Champlaign and then Montreal to the north. This is a very rural area, lots of farms, particularly dairy and corn, in the valley.
Albany, the capital city of NY is 45mi (~80km) south. NYC is far, far, far away!!! Montreal is closer!!
Glens Falls is a lovely, friendly, sometimes god awful cold!!, but otherwise really nice place to live and raise my daughter. Crime is almost non-existant, people are helpful and they are really good at plowing streets and fixing pot holes! What more can you ask for
I enjoy hiking and photographing the ADKs. I'll post my photo gallery site when we make our public announcement.
Thank you to those who were welcoming and helpful
