Leslie,
I tried to bring smalec back from Poland last month. The Dept of Agriculture confiscated it from me. They must really like it. ; )

Hey Mikey,
Since the Department of Agriculture took my smalec. Do you have a recipe for it? They also took my flatki *(&^*& They love Polish food. They asked me if I just came from Poland.

Piwo,
I always thought if it was cooked your could bring it into the US. I was wrong. No MEAT products what so ever may be brought in.

I really didn't know what the rules were, but no way was I going to offer my cake up, and since they specifically wanted to know if I had been on a farm and near any livestock... the answer was of course, NO... So I guess the smalec couldn't come in because it was uncooked fat?

Piwo,
But the flatki were processed and in commerically packed containers. I think the smalec is cooked with bits of meat put into it. Need a recipe !!!

TRY THIS nANCY;
Down in the meadow in a little bitty pool Swam three little fishies and a mama fishie too "Swim" said the mama fishie, "Swim if you can" And they swam and they swam all over the dam Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu! Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu! Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu! And they swam and they swam all over the dam
"Stop" said the mama fishie, "or you will get lost" The three little fishies didn't wanna be bossed The three little fishies went off on a spree And they swam and they swam right out to the sea Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu! Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu! Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu! And they swam and they swam right out to the sea
"Whee!" yelled the little fishies, "Here's a lot of fun We'll swim in the sea till the day is done" They swam and they swam, and it was a lark Till all of a sudden they saw a shark! Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu! Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu! Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu! Till all of a sudden they saw a shark!
"Help!" cried the little fishies, "Gee! look at all the whales!" And quick as they could, they turned on their tails And back to the pool in the meadow they swam And they swam and they swam back over the dam Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu! Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu! Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu! And they swam and they swam back over the dam.

Our main Christmas dish is swimming in the bath. My sons are trying to catch it, but it is too fast for them and I have to take over. ] Food doesn't come any fresher than that! Did you buy the fish live like that or did you go fishing somewhere and catch him yourselves?

Suzanne,
Seriously when in Japan they took fish from the tank to make meals. Also shrimp for sushi. Pretty fresh.

Food doesn't come any fresher than that! Did you buy the fish live like that or did you go fishing somewhere and catch him yourselves? Of course, we bought it. This is a tradition which goes back to my childhood. In communist Poland fish had to be bought in advance before Christmas because you never knew if you would be able to buy it on the last moment. So people bought fish and kept them in the bath for a few days. I remember I loved these times with fish in our bathroom. This was a fascinating experience to watch them. Even try to catch them. Later, with better shops, I used to buy fish and have them killed by the shop assistant. Last Christmas, I decided to buy live fish again, so that my sons have fun, the same I used to have when a child.

There's a great seafood restaurant here in Boston's Chinatown that has huge tanks with fish and shrimp, but some of the tanks were ornate and filled with small, goldfish-type fish and others had larger fish. I could never tell if those tanks were for decoration or food storage! Or both.
