I thought I'd leave the Whiskey thread to do what it says on the bottle, but as alcohol is a popular topic............
So. What is your favourite tipple then? And how often do you partake of the evil liquid?
I have to say that whilst I do enjoy a drink sometimes, I am probably way below average for alcohol intake. Hardly ever drink it at home, so little in fact that I am usually throwing stuff out because it has passed the sell-by date! I am more of a binge type drinker, get me out at the right occasion and I'll drink like a fish!! Luckily I seem to be able to handle quite a lot of the stuff without it affecting me too much although some drinks are worse than others. Mixing drinks is guaranteed to make a mess of me.
As for my faves, I do enjoy a good pint of bitter. Otherwise it's a big mixed up mess of drinks. Obviously vodka plays a part being in Poland.

It appears the latest craze here in the states is martini's which = vodka among the young crowd. I myself would put someone out of business if they depended on me. I do like wine when I go out with my dinner or if I have guests over for dinner. When I first started to drink my ex introduced me to Scotch which I drank for a while till I discovered gin and then it was gin and tonics for me till I discovered margaritas which is my drink of choice now. Beer has never been a drink I prefer but ocassionallly I do drink one on a hot day. I suppose I am in the catagory of social drinker.
What is a pint of bitter. Since you wrote pint I am assuming it to be a beer or am I way off. I know you make certain drinks with a dash of bitters.

I'm strictly a social drinker and never drink much at home, mainly because my husband and I have two young kids that never give us any peace and quiet at home to relax with a good drink! My favorite is wine (red and white equally). Beer (all types, esp. German Weissbier) is a close second. And champagne is lovely but I can't tell you the last time I had any of that... I've never developed a taste for the hard stuff, but I could enjoy cocktails, like a margarita, at a party.

;D Hey Scatts. we can really confuse Chris now by saying that I enjoyed a "Shandy" during the Summer. Alcahol of any kind raises the devil with my medications so, I stay away from the stuff and drink lots and lots of coffee. Having said that, I do enjoy a "Vino de Verano" when I am in Spain. ;D

Ian Last December, before the dreaded lurgy attacked my health, I used to have:
Pre-dinner - a glass of Cointreau with three ice cubes in it With dinner - usually a glass (or two) or red wine After dinner with my coffee - a measure and a half of wodka About 2100h - another glass of wodka.
Three times a week I didn't have the Cointreau , nor the wine nor the wodka, but went with my friends to the pub - had 1.5 pints of bitter (beer for Rdy..'s education) - often had a wodka between coming back from the pub and going to bed.
So I was a very moderate drinker.
Now at 200h I have a cup of tea with honey and a measure and a half of Irish whiskey - Irish because it goes better with tea. When I go to bed I have hot milk with honey and a little splash of whiskey. When I go out with my friends I have two half pints of bitter in 1.5 hours.
How's all that for strength of purpose and mind?! Mind you my doctor said NO alcohol until everything wrong is signed off!! What a hope!
Out of all that, my favourite was, and still is if I dared drink it, wodka.

My normal routine is a glass of red wine after work, (maybe two), then two Bourbon and diet cokes after @ 8:00 PM. Upon my return from Poland a few weeks ago, I know continue with the wine, but follow that up with numerous wodka shots. After the wedding I went to in Lodz, i get the shakes if I don't drink copious amounts of the stuff from a shot glass. Plus, I believe it is a magic elixir: How I can go to Poland and EAT, EAT, EAT like a swinia and not put on a single pound, ounce or kilo, and come home and starve myself and STILL PUT ON WEIGHT is a mystery. I concluded it was the wodka, and now consider it diet food. I have willpower: I STICK WITH MY DIET!!!!!

If you are very very thirsty: Die Wiesn begins 22 Sept-07 Okt. Theresienwiese Munich. {Oktober Fest}.
You will have at the least,16 days of eating/drinking/resting/and then over again. Just pick your favourite tent...If the noise hurts the ears, it should be quite music for the family untill hour 18.00 Then the Slager and brass {Blasmusik} will wake you up big time in quick hurry.
Weight gain? Who cares!!!
Well least as long as the money holds.

Leslie,
Don't most women drink in 1/2 pints instead of pints? I remember that from a while back.
Macallan Scotch is my preferred choice. 2 to 3 in the evening before dinner is great to wind down. At dinner we generally have a Pinot Noir or a good Merlot with the beef and I like a Johanesburg Reisling with the fowl meat.
If whiskey is on the menu than a good lite Canadian such as Black Velvet would be the choice. My scotch and whiskey is just on the rocks or a dash of water. Nothing more as it spoils the flavor.

John Many thanks for your description of your drinking habits - and there are people on this forum who are calling me an alcoholic!!!!! ;D
Yes, normally woman drink half pints while their menfolk are drinking pints. But this can vary with the age culture - if you go on a Saturday night, late, to a town centre bar where there are a lot of young people (quite a few under age) you will find both sexes drinking pints - a sign of the times!
