We should never let alcohol into our home! We should never leave our homes without God! We are His home, and He is ours! Christ is the only Spirit we need! The Great Pope, John Paul II, in his first Encyclical Redemptor hominis, said that "the greatest longing of the human spirit is searching for God, and in this way seeking the true dimension of being human" (RH, 11). Our sense of life and our dignity begins and ends with God, Who dwells in us! This Mystery, hidden in God from eternity, has been made manifest to us in its fullness in Christ. Jesus, our Eternal Home, unites in Himself the deepest human and Divine Mysteries and Longings. We now know, through the Paraclete He sent after the Ascension, that it has been God's eternal Plan to link together the Redemption and the Cross. In the Paschal Mystery, the humanity has regained her original bond with the Father's fountain of Wisdom and Merciful Love. Through His Spirit, Jesus has revealed to us this Truth and this Way leading to Life! This is our faith, and conscious of the new dignity found in God, we should strive to be one in Christ as he wanted, to be His "homes," and never let the alcohol to take place of Him! In this manner, the joy to which we are destined will gradually begin to dawn upon us!

Perhaps we need a topic called "The Sunday Sermon" where all such posts could be gathered?

Ian
Good ideas are a blessing, I think you have an excellent idea in that respect..
The residual good, will be the ability to research this envelope at a later time as need will require.
Keep the idea manufacturing producing, for you have a ready market in view

Thank you for the input. Upon reflection, I think that Ian has had a stupendous idea! I don't know in which kinds of circles he operates, but I see daily the enormous damage done by alcohol to the people of Poland. Never have I seen anything comparable in the world, even though I have been around! People are in danger of losing their very souls! They desperately need help! A week ago, I saw a young man with his legs trembling incontrollably in a tramway. He had a huge duffle bag full of empty vodka bottles neatly concealed out of pride. His eyes were eyes of a wounded animal, but there was soul in them! Accompanied by his saintly mother, he was going to a store, to exchange the bottles for more vodka. I felt great pain in my heart, when I looked at the heroic eyes of his eighty-years old mother. She was sober, but could do nothing, other than smile and be there ... all for him. She seemed to be no longer living in this world, for the smile was constant on her face. He sat her by my side, and she grabbed my arm several times, looking at me and smiling, unaware that I was a stranger. She wanted something, some help. Upon returning home, I wrote the post, which is above. A topic specifically dedicated to the ways to ease the pain of millions of people suffering this and other dependencies ( I call them slaveries), could produce both interest and miracles! I have vainly tried to raise the awareness of the healing power of spirituality on the Irish Health blog in Ireland, recently. It was producing fruits, but I have run into difficulty from the atheistic sectors, and it is a slow going. But Poland is not Ireland, and our alcohol problems are much greater! We are all priests, prophets, and kings! We are humanists after the manner of John Paul II! With Jaga's approval, we could interest the archdioceses of Poland to encourage priests and nuns to give their insight regarding the great humanistic problems of our time! I am right now on my way to teach Italian to clerics. I could explore what they think should be done with alcoholism! Before we know, with the help of God, we could produce one of the greatest miracles in the world: the demise of alcoholism and the healing of many of its victims!

Troubledangel Please let me continue to be a person in my own right. If I happened to be an alcoholic or was on the way to it, it would be my decision to do this or not. I can't remember in the 10 Commandments anything about 'Thou shall not drink'.
As you say, Poland is not Ireland since, although Ireland is ostensibly a catholic country, to get most of the Irish to put spirituality before a drink is on a hiding to nothing.

I can see your point, Leslie. But it's not about you! It's about the countless unfortunates who have long lost the ability to make their own free decisions, except the decision to have one more drink! Many of these people are hurting immensely, and we who are free from this terrible dependency, have a moral obligation to do everything we can, to help them!

So how do you explain the wine at the Last Supper and in Mass. Even God liked his wine. What one needs to do is learn to drink in moderation.

I have nothing against doing everything in moderation! Jesus Himself drank wine in moderation! He even insured that, at a wedding, there was plenty of wine for all. But there is a huge stretch between the disease called alcoholism, and the Holy Communion! And there is a fine line between freedom and slavery! Once someone becomes slave to alcohol, be it wine, beer, or vodka, one ceases to be free! Communion is not at issue here: Communion makes us free!

Once someone becomes slave to alcohol, be it wine, beer, or vodka, one ceases to be free! Communion is not at issue here: Communion makes us free! I would suggest you have with your post. Placed into proper prospective the matter of {moderation in all things}. And in process, have provided an understandable answer to those of question. We each of us, are different, with different prospectives and life experiences. But, we as people, have a common sharing, and that is our weaknesses. I enjoy and do like the taste of most all alcohol drinks {beverages} and enjoy what I drink. But, we each must be responsible and understand and be observant to our limits, both in a social setting and that of our personal life. What would I know? It takes not to be dead, to understand what is dead. In as such to alcohol. And yes of course, I as a person have in past and present, drink with much excess with will and intent. But not in the sight of others, just only in the sight of God. And for these various abuses, plus many many others, I do ask of God for his forgiveness, will he hear me? That is a question I do not ask, for I believe it to be so and go no further. the intent of this reply is not of a confession for redemption. It simply is a description of one mans life experience as a sharing. Perhaps in self, to more best consolidate an others thoughts into better prospective of understanding of self. Charles

This topic seems to be just a lot of rhetoric from persons who know little about addiction treatment. Happy Halloween! Boo Boo and watch out for evil spirits, vodka and others.
