I remember as a young boy, there was a market called Susmans. When you went to the fish counter they had a large fish tank on the back wall. I mean it was huge. It had to have been 5 ft wide by a couple of feet deep and about 3 ft tall. In it were dozens of eels. As a person wanted one or two they would net it place in a container and sold to the person for dinner. The tank was fascinating to watch. As a young boy we used to go fishing down at the river wiith drop lines and dead shiners. Caught many an eel and cleaned them. Pan fried in butter or in a fish stew they were delicious. How is it prepared now in Poland? Smoked eel is eaten in Poland. I think it is also eaten fresh, locally, near the lakes where it is introduced artificially and grown. Due to high cost of imported embroys, smoked eel is the most expensive fish to buy in Poland. 1kg costs 80 zlotys, about 30$. Fresh salmon costs 10$. I love smoked eel, consider it a gourmet food because it is so fatty and delicate. The price prevents me from eating it every day. I also like smoked sprats - little fish which should be eaten with backbones but without heads.

They don't know but they now will try this specialte perhaps. No, my darling. They prefer champagne. It goes better with caviar than beetroot juice I guess. ;D ;D ;D And even if they don't really drink champagne or vodka from the early hours they are open and honest, starightforwars people with their hearts on their palms who certainly would never ever EVER E V E R give a woman a poisonous flower with a, phhhhht, Daphne name!!!!

They don't know but they now will try this specialte perhaps. It is incredible drink, really. You can`t obtain it in Warsaw, unluckily. It is purely krakowian invention. They stop having it in shops beyond the perimeter of 50 miles north of Krakow. Yes, it always made me laugh how Warsawians call their cheap sparkling wines champagne. It is artificially carbon saturated, sulphuric wine for 5 dollars a bottle, not champagne! Sovetskoe Igristoye, favourite Warsawian sparkling wine. Hmm, believe me Livia, I have tried hundreds of different combinations and this one is just perfect. Come on, who tells a woman to eat the offered flower??? And Daphne?? Isn`t it a wonderful name??? Besids, read this:Kwiaty różowe, rzadko białe, wonne, niepozorne, czterokrotne, obupłciowe,. Isn`t it fascinating? Or this: Kwiaty zapylane przez owady o długich narządach gębowych. It is so sweet!!! What is more, the flower is very rare in Poland. Shouldn`t a woman appreciate that a man has found a rare flower for her?

Dom Perignon is a bit pricey but here's something good at reasonable price ;D ;D ;D And - are you sure S O V E T S K O E whatever, could be called 'Warsawians'? Besides I am also attached to Łódź, you called 'ugly' elsewhere.... Oh, poor me. I like two cities so disliked, so despised in Kraków. I think I saw this fermented beetroot invention at the superamarket. Is it good or is it some usual supermarker forgery? Btw. here in central Poland we are not using dollars, we're using polski złoty! ;D ;D ;D ---- ah, I forgot! I see that you are eating healthy food generally! Great! Or is it for the pics only and behind the camera you eat these fatty Kraków nugats and bread&smalczyk??

Sovietskoe Ahhh,, that burst my bubble! The former Soviets I got to know in Latvia and Lithuania were quite happy to regain independence from the Russians, but they were all proud drinkers of Sovietskoe! I can see where the Poles would have a different attitude. My first taste of Sovietskoe was in East Berlin ... American used to love going there to buy it and many other East Block products. Kai

Dom Perignon is a bit pricey but here's something good at reasonable price ;D ;D ;D People say that sparkling wine practically doesn`t differ in taste from true champagne. So, what`s the point? You will have to try it. Yes, they are available at supermarkets and greengrocer`s too. But the forum is frequented by more Americans than Poles and Brits. According to my last census, there are 3 active Poles now: You, Joanna, me. There was also Zooba from Poznań but now she is missing. Everything what I eat is my favourite foods, I never force myself to eat anything that is healthy but what I dislike. I eat brown bread (the only exception I make for white bread is for caviar), drink mineral water (and wine), devour large quantities of raw vegetables (recently I discovered raw cauliflower which is deliciously crunchy) and fruit, the more exotic, the better (I hate apples). We use olive oil for cooking, I also like taking a sip ot two of olive oil daily, I just love it. If you want me to drink a few glasses of olive oil one by one, I can easily do it. Just buy me a bottle. You know, I am frugal, as every Krakowian - centuś. We also eat a lot of fish. They are great the fattiest, the better. But.... I don`t eat nugats, I prefer simple honey or chalva for dessert, also dates and figs. As for fats and meat, I admit I like strange food, e.g., raw meat, tripes, sausages, bacon, lard, black pudding, and I eat them quite often With mayonaise, of course and other unhealthy additives. But without preservatyws!

I don't know really. It was you who started the Warsowians fav wine false thing.
The number of Poles or Americans in the forum doesn't influence the currency used in Warszawa or in Poznań, as far as I know.
Yes , we ARE different. I love apples.
I don't think so. If you was a typical centuś you wouldn't spend so much on your internet connection. But I do agree you eat some strange food. But don't you worry, my husband does too! So it is probably beacuse you're a man, not because you're from Kraków!!

I meant that I understand Warsawians. It is silly to spend 100$ on champagne if they can have the same taste for 5$. You are still a new kid on ther block to understand it but when you stay with us longer, you will realise it is an accepted way of talking finance in the forum. Fueeee! I am frugal. I spend not too much in my opinion but I use it so much. What strange things can he eat in Warsaw? Dog dishes in Chinese restaurants? There was a scandal a few years ago that some clever Asian cook prepared dishes with dog meat. I think it happened in Warsaw.

Pawian,
Get off this down with Warsaw thing. It is a great place, one of the best, large city's in the world. We have our share of odd foods here, but that does not make us bad. I love your photo's but am still trying to understand you, and I want to, since, inside, there must be a fine person.

Michael Dabrowski hahahahahahahahaha Dear Mike, you might have a big trouble trying to understand me. My Chinese Zodiac is Monkey and my Western Zodiac sign is Gemini. These two create a very strange combination. How do you want to understand me if even my poor mother often said she couldn`t? Now, coming back to reality. You shouldn`t meddle into two Poles` affair. It is between me and Livia. Leave us alone and let us do what we want. We are adult people.

Pawian,
If you want only to write to Livia, why don't you send it direct to her, via E-mail, not post for all of us to read. I will keep trying to understand you, and will look, hard, for your good side, and hope to find it. It is not my fault that my Grandparents came here, and my parents were born here, or I could have been Polish also, 100 per cent, but only my Grandparents, on both sides were.
